Rochambeau Middle School (RMS) is a middle school in Southbury, Connecticut, United States, and part of Pomperaug Regional School District 15. The school serves students in grades six through eight. The school's building was formerly the home of Southbury High School. The school is named after Jean-Baptiste Donatien de Vimeur, comte de Rochambeau, who marched through the area during the Revolutionary War. The school also runs by a six-day rotation. For example, if Day 1 falls on a Monday, then Day 5 falls on a Friday, and the next Monday is Day 6, and Tuesday is Day 1, and so on.

Auditions are held at the beginning of the school year to determine placement in the group. This group rehearses once a rotation during the school day and one day after school.
ART ENRICHMENT: To qualify for Art Enrichment, students must receive an A in Art, be recommended by a teacher, and present a portfolio of artwork. The portfolio is judged by a group of art educators and the Unified Arts Director. This admission process takes place in April and May before the upcoming school year.
STUDENT COUNCIL: The Student Council is supposed to represent the entire student body. However, this isn't the case because in fact, the students' rights as U.S. citizens are ignored because the real power lies with their authoritarian principal. Students from each grade are selected by student vote to serve as representatives. Meetings are held during school. Student Council seeks the suggestions and assistance of the student body in planning activities such as: dances, spirit days, talent shows, fundraising and community awareness. However, the staff still needs to approve of them. They also aid Administration and Teachers in carrying out special projects and in supposedly "improving" the school climate to meet their needs. Faculty advisors assist their officers in conducting meetings and in planning the year.
6th GRADE: 6th Graders take either Academic or Advanced Math, World Social Studies, English, Science, and two Related Arts classes.
7th GRADE: 7th Graders take either Academic or Advanced Math, either French 1A or Spanish 1A, US History, Life Science, English, and two Related Arts classes.

Students are recommended by their previous teachers to take Advanced and/or Algebra classes
Students have a choice between French or Spanish in 6th grade, and the language classes begin in 7th grade. They can be continued during high school. The Region 15 budget is taking place in may and one of the changes of the budget will be for the language course's to start in sixth grade.
RMS has recently created a science newspaper, where 7th and 8th grade science students work to create a text that is distributed periodically throughout the year. This started during the 2009-2010 school year.
